Catalina 34 Sailboat- Sunday sailing on the Potomac River
This was my first drone flight/retrieval off of a moving sailboat. Not too hard given the mild conditions. It's also my first edited video so it's a bit rough......but it was FUN!!!!

I added a pair of E-flight Timber floats to my Dynam Waco and it works pretty well. If I can get someone to film it flying I'll post that soon.

I've had this machine for a few years now. It's not a repaint, it's all original and in great shape and ready for a new home.

I'm in the last stages of painting this Singer 201-2. I thought I'd share the process of water sanding out imperfections on the bed of this machine.
Repainting a 1946 Singer 201-2 (Trash to Treasure!!!)
Переглядів 183 тис.11 років тому
I've been asked many questions about the process of painting sewing machines so I've taken the photos I took from one I did last year and created this tutorial. There is obviously much I wasn't able to catch but I think this video of the progress shows a good bit of the basics of a complete Singer 201-2 restoration. Each frame is only 7 seconds total so you'll have to pause it to read the dialo...

1948 Singer 15-91 test sew after refurbishing
Переглядів 1,1 тис.11 років тому
The machine was cleaned and detailed extensively, reassembled and adjusted back to factory specs. Motor, light fixture, foot controller and wall plug were all rewired and all connections were soldered for a good strong electrical connection. I'm always amazed at what turns up under decades of dust, old grease and neglect. This 1948 Singer 15-91 is definitely ready for many, many more years of s...
1946 Singer 201-2 Repaint and Rebuild
Переглядів 7 тис.11 років тому
I took this 1946 Singer 201-2 from a questionable parts machine to this beautiful "new" machine. I did this one for a friend of mine in Minnasota but if you're interested in a restoration project for yourself please feel free to contact me to discuss.
1940 Singer 15-91 Cherry Red

I decided to do something a bit different with this machine rather than just paint it black....not that I don't like black Singers, I just wanted to do something different!!!

1910 Singer Model 66 "Redeye"/"Redhead"

This Singer model 66 started out as a dusty and grimy mess but ended up as one beautiful and useful sewing machine.
How did you get the numbers so clean on the stitch length selector plate?
Hi. I am working on a Featherweight now. She was completely stripped, primed, painted and i just put the decals on. I had a few issues with crazing on some of the parts. You know, that wrinkling of the paint. Stripped those out again. It happened with the clear coat after days of the color coat drying. My point: I can't imagine wet sanding after all the work and here you are showing exactly that. I hope I find the nerve to do it. Thanks so much for this video. I rebuilt my 201 but didn't need to paint her. Best of my many vintage machines.
10 years later. where is this machine at>>>>???? Give us a video!
Thank you sir! Great work!😎
Как долго вы сможете работать за машинкой в красном цвете? Один из самых раздражающих ваши глаза. То что хорошо для пожарной машины не очень хорошо для швейной машины.
I've...... never seen one so stripped back and naked before. You make a sow's ear into a silk purse.
Any chance you can share what clear coat you used? It sounded like something you sprayed on
Can I clarify, what you’re sanding is the black paint you added or shellac added over the paint?
Very very very good job. 👏 I saw many videos regarding the polishing of sewing machines but i think this video is the ever best one. I have two 201k old sewing machines that their paint and decals are some scrubed , and i am looking forward to be able to repolish them again. Can you please share with us the complete process starting from paint removal up to how to redecaling again the machine surface ?
I need a bobbin case for my machine. Not sure where to order it.
It's your machine but RED paint?
I cannot tell a lie...it was CHERRY RED!!!!! 😁
You did a great job. Way more than I really needed to know.😀 I am considering just touching up some missing paint, realizing it is probably a bad idea. But I am not comfortable taking the whole thing apart.
Thanks!!! And nope, you can touch them up too.
@@menosmoke01 thanks!
Wow!! I hope someday you do videos on the whole process with information on paints and clear coats. I'm sure I'm not the only DIY person that would enjoy learning from a Master.
Words move too fast. Excellent work, though.
Lovely work Eric, you are a superstar. I recently repainted a Singer 111G156 in red, I didn't do as good a job as you but another machine was saved from the trash! Lovely video and inspiring work. :)
Oooh! Orange! 🤩
This is fantastic. Thank you so much for sharing. May I ask a question - I want to repaint my old 1950s Husqvarna Type 20 (with an aluminium body). What is the type of paint that you use here? Is it acrylic? I was thinking I'd need to do a coat of paint then a coat of lacquer, but it looks like your paint has lacquer already in it. Is that the case?
Stunning!!!
8 years old video and still the best on finishing painted machines. Brilliant, Eric. Many thanks!
I also want to refurbish my two 201-2 machines, not to destroy the shine. Can you contact me and help me? Should you not have used the carnauba wax for black color?
I have two of your machines in this fine conditions and I might your help for preserving them with the right ideas, not to damage the shine.
Just a very nice and informative video. Excellent job. Nothing half-assed or skipped over. Although I much prefer black, machine looks gorgeous.
Eric, What color and brand of Black are you using? This work you are doing is fantastic. I have been renovating these machines for a while now, but matching the Japaning black has been difficult. Thank you...
Eric's machine restorations are the most beautiful I've seen anywhere. Once the Japaning is shot, it is not possible to restore to the original finish. I've never liked the black machines, especially the curvy/curly decaling on the 15's. Those decals are a bit irritating like polka dots to my eyes. I'll be using 201 decals on my 15-88. Restoring these has nothing to do with maintaining authenticity and dollar value and everything to do with honoring an excellent machine and keeping it protected from rust for years to come. Plus sewing on something beautiful is more pleasant than sewing on something sad and worn out. Repainting these machines is no different than finding a classic auto chassis and bringing it back to life. A proper paint job and maintenance could keep the machine performing well for another 50+ years.
Exquisite
Beautiful!!!
Parabéns pela restauração essa máquina de costura é uma relíquia, só não aprovo a pintura na cor vermelha na máquina .
Máquina de costura muito bonita
Do you still do work on machines? Im in the uk.
It is a beautiful job! I love the red color and everything you did! Fantastic job!
Eric, I worked for Singer for 12.5 years many of those years as a factory trained tech. This example of what can be done with a vintage machine is incredible! Its simply stunning. I hope thousands of potential vintage restorers will see this machine and realize what can be done. Just simply magnificent!
M. Lee Riley, thanks a ton for the kind words!!!! My grandmother used to work for Singer back in the 1950's, she used to demonstrate the machines capabilities to customers and I still have one of her pieces she finished. I do hope these videos help others with their restoration efforts too.
@@menosmoke01 Eric, your videos not only help people to fix their vintage machines but they inspire them to do so. Thanks ! God Bless you .
That ones ready to sew Satan's panties
Eric, do you still work on Singer sewing machines? I watched one of your videos from a few years ago and had some questions if you had time? Great videos!!! Thanks, Joe
How do you remove the Singer badge without destroying it?
Depends on the machine, some have pins that are just driven in like a nail, most of the early ones are driven in and then bent over from inside, these can be straightend and removed too.....but in both cases it's better to have the machine disassembled to access these pins. To help get them going I use a 16 penny finish nail with the tip bent at a 90 degree angle so I can reach up in there and then I slide a wrench or anything handy to tap the end of that nail to help get the pin(s) started. Once they've moved a bit you can get plyers on them to pull them out.....Fun stuff, eh????
@@menosmoke01 I really appreciate you answering my reply so quickly!! The ones I’m dealing with are the (drive screw) ones. I feel I need to take off the badge to properly paint it. Again I appreciate your response and help!!! Thanks, Joe Ps, I enjoyed your sailing video as well, we live in Maryland and enjoy the water as well!!!
oh my god what a beauty... i want to paint a similar machine i have but... i can't take soooo much work !
So glad I won't be doing this on my new machine. Imagine my surprise when I just found this video. Thank you Eric. You're awesome.
Hi Eric. My 1949 201 appears to have lacquer over black, if I'm not mistake. The machine is in top condition except that the lacquer seems to be failing, missing, faulty. Do I just live with this or can I improve the finish?
What paint did you use? And what type of spray gun?
What's the best way to remove the emblem rivets for re use?
Depends on the machine. Some are set into the pillar and then the end is bent over inside, those CAN be straightened and then tapped out but sometimes they do snap off when I'm straightening them. Even so, if that happens I'll use a small dab of epoxy and put the broken head back in when it's time to reassemble the machine. The other (older machines I believe) aren't bent over and I'll use a finish nail. I'll grind the tip to a point and then bend it over to a 90 degree angle. I'll hold it with a small pair of vice grips and line the tip up on the end of the pin protruding thru the pillar. I've used everything you can think of to tap that bent nail so that it drives the pin out but the best thing I've used is a rather large open end wrench....there is VERY little room to work up inside that pillar but I'm one patient dude and I'll eventually get that pin out. Hope this helps or at least gives you some ideas to try out.
Thank you for this how to video. What do you recommend to strip the paint? Do you have a supply list needed on line?
hi, eric, did you know something about a Custom Decals Out of Plain Paper. What is the better for restoration ?
How much is it? cost that is.
good riddance
Impressive. Thank you.
Great video! When applying the products do you have to wait any length of time before applying the next product?
I tend to worry over the loss of the original condition, but I have looked on eBay, Craigslist and Face Book marketplace and there are NO SHORTAGE of vintage sewing machines in various conditions ranging from almost a total loss to mint. Therefore, I am of the opinion that taking the occasional one and doing a different type of paint job is just what is needed. It creates not only a valuable artifact for posterity but a unique one-of-a-kind to be handed down through generations. Good job and great video!
I think this is a 222 model
It’s not
Your work is incredible! We're looking at what is virtually a new machine, glossy and proud. Sorry if I hurt your feelings but I'd like it better in a dark color; the black, deep purple, dark green or dark blue. Actually, even white would have been great. But your client obviously chose red, so it's perfect because that's what she (or he!) wanted.
Hello, do you have any tips on the handling of the stitch length plate? The engravings are so shallow as is that I don’t want to sand them away while polishing the paint.
I swapped my modern heavy duty machine for two working 201’s 🥰 I wish you lived in Qld to repaint one of them because you do it so beautifully!
